Do Kwon, de architect van de Terra-debacle, staat dinsdag voor de rechter. Eindelijk. Rechtbankdocumenten suggereren dat hij mogelijk eieren voor zijn geld kiest en een pleidooi wijzigt. Het is een stap, maar na het drama dat hij veroorzaakte, is het nog lang geen genoeg.<\/p>\n

Achtergrond: De Terra-nachtmerrie en Kwon’s vlucht<\/h2>\n

Kwon’s onschuldpleidooi in januari was een lachertje, gezien de negen aanklachten die als een zwaard van Damocles boven zijn hoofd hangen: fraude, marktmanipulatie, witwassen. De instorting van Terra was geen ongelukje, het was een financi\u00eble ramp die beleggers 40 miljard dollar kostte. Zijn maandenlange verdwijning na de crash was een bewuste poging om aan de gevolgen te ontsnappen. De arrestatie in Montenegro was een noodzakelijk kwaad.<\/p>\n

Schikking in de maak? Hoog tijd.<\/h2>\n

Sinds zijn uitlevering zit Kwon vast, waar hij hoort. De vertragingstactieken van zijn advocaten hebben geen zoden aan de dijk gezet. De geplande rechtszaak in 2026 leek een eeuwigheid. De “productieve gesprekken” met interim-officier Jay Clayton suggereren een mogelijke schikking, maar de details zijn cruciaal. Het is tijd dat Kwon de verantwoordelijkheid neemt en de slachtoffers compenseert.<\/p>\n

De timing van deze zitting, vlak na de veroordeling van Tornado Cash medeoprichter Roman Storm, is geen toeval. Het is een duidelijke boodschap: de Amerikaanse justitie is serieus over de aanpak van criminaliteit in de crypto-wereld.<\/p>\n

Terraform Labs’ eerdere boete: Een doekje voor het bloeden<\/h2>\n

De schikking van Terraform Labs met de SEC, waarbij 4,5 miljard dollar aan boetes en terugbetalingen werd beloofd, is slechts een gedeeltelijke genoegdoening.
