Volgens nieuwe cijfers steeg de inflatie in april naar drie procent en verwachten economen dat dit de komende maanden zelfs richting vier procent kan gaan. Tegelijkertijd zwakt de economische groei verder af. Daarmee ontstaat een situatie waar centrale banken juist voor vrezen: stagnerende groei gecombineerd met hardnekkige inflatie.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens hoofdeconoom Peter Vanden Houte van ING lijkt een renteverhoging van de Europese Centrale Bank (<a href=\"https:\/\/newsbit.nl\/cryptocurrency-termen\/wat-is\/ecb\/\">ECB<\/a>) in juni daarom vrijwel onvermijdelijk. Ook een tweede verhoging later dit jaar wordt niet uitgesloten.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-economie-eurozone-valt-bijna-stil\">Economie eurozone valt bijna stil<\/h2>\n<p>Uit voorlopige cijfers blijkt dat de economie van de eurozone in het eerste kwartaal slechts met 0,1 procent groeide. Vooral de zwakke maand maart drukte op de cijfers. Consumenten hielden de hand op de knip en bedrijven investeerden minder.<\/p>\n<p>Zo daalden de detailhandelsverkopen in maart opnieuw. Ook de vraag naar leningen vanuit bedrijven liep terug. <a href=\"https:\/\/think.ing.com\/articles\/eurozone-rising-inflation-signals-june-rate-hike\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Volgens<\/a> ING wijst dat erop dat ondernemingen voorzichtig worden door de economische onzekerheid.<\/p>\n<p>De eerste signalen voor het tweede kwartaal zijn bovendien niet veel beter. De inkoopmanagersindex (PMI), een belangrijke graadmeter voor de economie, zakte onder de grens van 50 punten. Dat duidt op krimp in de private sector.<\/p>\n<p>Vooral de dienstensector toont zwakte. De industrie blijft voorlopig iets stabieler, mede doordat bedrijven extra voorraden aanleggen uit angst voor nieuwe verstoringen in wereldwijde toeleveringsketens. Economen waarschuwen echter dat dit slechts tijdelijk steun biedt.<\/p>\n<p>ING verwacht daarom dat de economie van de eurozone dit kwartaal vrijwel volledig tot stilstand komt.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-inflatie-loopt-verder-op\">Inflatie loopt verder op<\/h2>\n<p>Ondanks de zwakke economie blijft de inflatie stijgen. De belangrijkste oorzaak ligt bij hogere energieprijzen. De totale inflatie kwam in april uit op drie procent op jaarbasis, tegenover 2,6 procent een maand eerder.<\/p>\n<p>De kerninflatie, waarbij energie en voedsel buiten beschouwing worden gelaten, daalde licht naar 2,2 procent. Toch maken economen zich zorgen, omdat ook de inflatieverwachtingen beginnen op te lopen.<\/p>\n<p>Uit recente enqu\u00eates blijkt dat zowel consumenten als bedrijven rekening houden met hogere prijzen in de komende jaren. Vooral bedrijven verwachten hun verkoopprijzen verder te verhogen.<\/p>\n<p>ING verwacht dat de inflatie in de komende maanden richting vier procent stijgt. Voor heel 2026 wordt nu gerekend op een gemiddelde inflatie van 3,3 procent.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ecb-bereidt-renteverhoging-voor\">ECB bereidt renteverhoging voor<\/h2>\n<p>ECB-president Christine Lagarde gebruikte het woord \u201cstagflatie\u201d niet letterlijk, maar volgens economen komt de eurozone inmiddels gevaarlijk dicht in de buurt van zo\u2019n scenario.<\/p>\n<p>Tijdens haar persconferentie in april gaf Lagarde aan dat de centrale bank in juni waarschijnlijk voldoende informatie heeft om een nieuw rentebesluit te nemen. Financi\u00eble markten rekenen inmiddels duidelijk op twee renteverhogingen dit jaar.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens Vanden Houte lijkt een eerste stap in juni daardoor \u201czeer waarschijnlijk\u201d.
