Goldman Sachs speelt weer eens voor orakel en voorspelt een drievoudige renteverlaging van 25 basispunten door de Federal Reserve dit jaar. Daarbovenop nog eens twee in 2026. De rente zou dan zakken naar een schamele 3%-3,25%. De vraag is: moeten we dit serieus nemen of is het gewoon Goldman die een narratief pusht dat hun eigen posities dient?<\/p>\n

Inflatie en economische data<\/h2>\n

Deze voorspellingen, gretig overgenomen door Reuters, komen na inflatiecijfers die…tja, conform verwachting waren. 0,2% stijging, precies wat de economen voorspelden. Alsof ze een script volgen. Een daling van benzineprijzen hield de boel nog enigszins in toom. Kortom: niks schokkends, maar blijkbaar genoeg voor Goldman om de renteverlagings-trom te roeren.<\/p>\n

De markt lijkt het te slikken als zoete koek. CME data laat zien dat men massaal inzet op een renteverlaging in september. De hoop op goedkoop geld is groot. Maar is het realiteit, of een zelfvervullende profetie gestuurd door partijen met een agenda?<\/p>\n

Reactie vanuit de politiek<\/h2>\n

Alsof de Fed niet al genoeg op haar bord heeft, bemoeit de politiek zich er nu ook mee. Scott Bessent, de Amerikaanse minister van Financi\u00ebn, eist openlijk een renteverlaging van een half procentpunt. Zijn argument? Zwakke arbeidsmarktcijfers. Een bekende truc: de schuld bij de centrale bank leggen. <\/p>\n

\u201cDe rente is te restrictief \u2026 We zouden waarschijnlijk 150 tot 175 basispunten lager moeten zitten.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Dit klinkt verdacht veel als de echo van Trump’s kritiek. Politieke druk op de onafhankelijke centrale bank? We hebben het eerder gezien, en het eindigt zelden goed. Men wil blijkbaar goedkoop geld, koste wat het kost. Dat dit de inflatie weer kan aanwakkeren, lijkt even geen issue.<\/p>\n

En laten we eerlijk zijn: een lagere rente is koren op de molen voor risico-assets, zoals Bitcoin. Goedkoop geld spoelt de financi\u00eble markten over, waardoor speculatieve investeringen plotseling aantrekkelijker worden. Over dertig dagen horen we wat de Fed gaat doen. Wordt het een knieval voor de politiek en de financi\u00eble markten, of durven ze vast te houden aan hun eigen, hopelijk doordachte, strategie?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
