Goldman Sachs, de gehaaide jongens van Wall Street, voorspellen doodleuk drie renteverlagingen van de Federal Reserve dit jaar. Alsof ze de agenda van Powell al in hun broekzak hebben. En alsof dat nog niet genoeg is, plakken ze er in 2026 nog twee aan vast. Eindresultaat: een beleidsrente die bungelt tussen de 3 en 3,25 procent. Waar halen ze dit optimisme vandaan?<\/p>\n

Inflatie en economische data<\/h2>\n

Die voorspelling komt natuurlijk niet uit de lucht vallen. De inflatiecijfers zijn immers lichtjes gestegen, maar blijven braaf binnen de lijntjes. Benzine goedkoper, voedsel stabiel. Kortom, geen reden voor paniekvoetbal. Maar of dit genoeg is om de Fed tot actie te bewegen? Dat is de vraag. CME Group berekent een dikke 82,9% kans op een renteverlaging in september. Alsof het al in beton gegoten is. Marktwerking, noemen ze dat. Wij noemen het speculatie.<\/p>\n

Reactie vanuit de politiek<\/h2>\n

En dan hebben we Scott Bessent, de Amerikaanse minister van Financi\u00ebn, die zich er ook nog even mee bemoeit. Een half procentpunt renteverlaging, dat is zijn recept. De arbeidsmarkt is te zwak, de rente te hoog. En laten we eerlijk zijn, dit is gewoon een echo van Trump, die geen gelegenheid onbenut laat om de Fed te bashen. Politiek gemekker, ten koste van de economische stabiliteit. <\/p>\n

Maar goed, een lagere rente is natuurlijk koren op de molen van Bitcoin en andere risicovolle assets. Lenen wordt immers goedkoper, dus er kan weer volop gespeculeerd worden. De Fed komt over een maand weer bijeen. We wachten af, met een gezonde dosis scepsis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
