En alsof dat niet genoeg is, mikken ze op nog eens twee verlagingen in 2026. Het eindresultaat? Een beleidsrente tussen de 3 en 3,25 procent. Een forse daling, gezien de huidige bandbreedte van 4,25 tot 4,50 procent. De vraag is: drinken ze soms te veel van hun eigen koelwater?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inflatie en economische data<\/h2>\n<p>Deze voorspelling, zo meldt Reuters, komt na inflatiecijfers die keurig binnen de lijntjes kleurden. Consumentenprijzen stegen in juli met 0,2 procent, een fractie minder dan de 0,3 procent in juni. Maar laten we eerlijk zijn, \u00e9\u00e9n maand maakt nog geen zomer. Die gematigde stijging was vooral te danken aan een scherpe daling van de benzineprijzen. Voedselprijzen bleven stabiel, een zeldzaamheid in deze tijden.<\/p>\n<p>De markt lijkt er in ieder geval al op in te spelen. Volgens CME data acht men de kans op een renteverlaging van 25 basispunten in september op maar liefst 82,9 procent. Handelaren verwachten inmiddels circa 65 basispunten aan verlagingen dit jaar, tegen ongeveer 60 basispunten een week geleden. Kortom, de markt ruikt bloed, of in dit geval, lagere rentes.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reactie vanuit de politiek<\/h2>\n<p>De roep om verlagingen wordt luider, zeker vanuit politieke hoek. De Amerikaanse minister van Financi\u00ebn, Scott Bessent, gooide olie op het vuur door te pleiten voor een halvering van de rente. Zijn argument? De arbeidsmarkt cijfers zijn te zwak, en de rente is simpelweg te restrictief.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cDe rente is te restrictief \u2026 We zouden waarschijnlijk 150 tot 175 basispunten lager moeten zitten.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Bessent loopt hiermee in de pas met ex-president Trump, die de Federal Reserve ook niet schuwde te bekritiseren. Politiek en monetair beleid: een explosieve combinatie, zeker in verkiezingstijd. Of Bessent daadwerkelijk de objectieve waarheid spreekt, of dat dit een politiek gemotiveerde oproep is, laten we in het midden. Feit is dat hij het debat verder aanwakkert.<\/p>\n<p>En wat betekent dit allemaal? Lagere rentes zijn doorgaans goed nieuws voor risicovolle activa, zoals Bitcoin en andere cryptomunten. Lenen wordt goedkoper, en het geld kan makkelijker de financi\u00eble markten opzoeken. De Federal Reserve komt over dertig dagen weer bijeen. De ogen van de wereld zijn gericht op Jerome Powell en zijn team.
